Government Accessibility
The people of Michigan City need better information for increased participation. Modernizing the city website, including a mobile platform, will provide greater access to meetings and events in the city. The Mayor’s daily schedule will be posted. When there is an open hour, a person can be scheduled direct time with the Mayor.
Inclusive Government
City committee positions will be offered to an expanded group of people who care about the future of our city in an effort to include more ideas from a larger base of citizens.
Pedestrian and Transit Safety
We have an underutilized public transit system that would be improved with posted schedules and lighted shelters. Our city also has obstacles for pedestrians, children and disabled citizens among them. Investment will be focused to get children and wheelchairs out of the streets and on to sidewalks.
Economic Redevelopment
The wages in Michigan City have barely risen since 2010. As higher paying jobs leave, they are replaced by those which pay less, if replaced at all. The hardworking and skillful people who call our city home need manufacturing and professional firms providing higher wages.
Quality of Life
Greater wages will lead to more families becoming homeowners instead of home renters. Homes need to be affordable and available.
